and His Travels
Nova Scotia born, with family roots in New England, Captain Slocum commanded some of the finest tall ships that ever sailed the seas. On April 24, 1895, at the age of 51, he departed Boston in his tiny sloop Spray and sailed around the world single-handed, a passage of 46,000 miles, returning to Newport, Rhode Island on June 27, 1898. This historic achievement made him the patron saint of small-boat voyagers, navigators and adventurers all over the world.

This web site is our attempt to encourage other sailors, maintain a complete record of all single-handed circumnavigators, to popularize the legendary first solo circumnavigator, Captain Joshua Slocum, and offer membership in the Joshua Slocum Society International. The web is the ideal place to record, and to keep up-to-date, the growing list of the heroic sailors who have accomplished the feat of sailing around the world alone and to document the details of their vessels and voyages. The Society's mission is to honor all solo long distance sailors that accomplish these epic voyages. We welcome all sailors on land or sea to join the Society and register with us to be a part of the support we offer to those who put their lives at stake for small rewards.

NEW!!! We now are hosting a blog for all those who are in the process of attempting a solo circumnavigation or are in the preparation stages of a circumnavigation. We all now have the opportunity to join in their exiting and unique experiences. Visit out Blog Page now. Click here to view. For all those brave sailors out there please sign up to be a part of our blog. Click here to find out how.

If you are planning on attempting a solo circumnavigation, why not try to get sponsors or other donations to a favorite charity, so much per day, country, port, storms, etc. this will bring much more awareness to your great journey. But please before to start, complete and submit "Registration and Documentation of Solo Circumnavigators" so you can document your progress on our Circumnavigation Attempts in Progress Blog page where all can follow you and others sailing around the world.
